- This module operates with: Unidrive M400, M600 and M700, plus the following superseeded products: Unidrive M200 and M300
- It provides a crucial physical and data link between the PC running the commissioning software and the frequency converter (VFD) or servo controller
The CT-USB-CABLE is a drive commissioning and communication programming cable specifically designed for industrial automation control. As a crucial connection between PCs and various series of inverters or servo drives from the Control Techniques brand, it enables engineers to remotely configure drive parameters, monitor parameters online in real time, and diagnose system faults using officially provided software tools, thereby significantly improving the efficiency of on-site commissioning of industrial equipment.
In addition to basic parameter settings, this cable also supports driver firmware upgrades and batch uploading and downloading of control parameter files. During routine maintenance of automated production lines, it can collect waveform data and perform real-time trend analysis, helping engineers quickly locate system anomalies. It is an indispensable professional-grade tool for industrial automation field operation and equipment maintenance.
The CT-USB-CABLE Control Techniques USB Comms Cable may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Unlike standard commercial USB cables, this cable is itself an active electronic device:
Transceiver: Its housing contains an official FTDI FT232RL processor chip. This chip continuously converts the computer's high-speed USB differential signals into industrial-grade asynchronous half-duplex RS485 standard serial protocol.
Physical Interface: The computer side uses a standard USB Type-A male connector, connecting to the hard drive's 8-pin RJ45 modular connector, thus connecting to the hard drive's serial port.
On a standard Emerson/Control Techniques driver communication port, the RJ45 pin mapping is based on a specific configuration:
Pin 2: RS485 data receive/transmit positive (TXD+/RXD+ or A+);
Pin 7: RS485 data receive/transmit negative (TXD-/RXD- or B-);
Pin 3: Isolation ground (GND).
!!! Warning: Many Control Techniques drivers output a +24V or +5V auxiliary control voltage on other RJ45 pins (e.g., pins 1 and 4) to power a remote keyboard. Connecting a standard Ethernet jumper or a non-isolated USB adapter from a router to this port may damage the host motherboard.
Supported Operating Systems: Fully compatible with Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11 (32-bit and 64-bit systems).
Drive Configuration Software: Serves as the primary communication bridge for software environments such as Machine Control Studio, Unidrive M Connect, CTSoft, and CTScope.
Drive Series: Natively connects to Commander SK, Unidrive SP, Digitax ST, Mentor MP, and the newer Unidrive M series (M200 to M700 models).
